Challenge yourself to build innovative ML projects using Edge Impulse. Share your projects to empower other developers and engineers to get started on their ideas.
Submit projectPublic Projects help the community learn from each other, and teach developers and engineers how to solve real-world problems with Edge Impulse. This month we are asking you to show off your best object detection projects.
For our last Project of the Month Challenge, grab an Edge Impulse device that has a camera, and train a model to recognize two (or more) distinct items. These can be any items of your choosing, but make sure you build a model accurate enough to tell them apart!
All winning entries are also entered into our annual competition for a chance to win more prizes.
Add your own data, train, and deploy your model

Bottles versus Cans
How do you prefer your beverages? This project can identify and differentiate bottles and cans.
AI Cart
A shopping cart that uses computer vision to determine what items are in the basket.
Hardware Sorter
Distinguish between screws, washers, nuts, and bolts with this object detection project.
Quality
You must have uploaded and trained on enough data to make an accurate and functional model. We suggest you include a Readme that describes in detail what the project is suitable for, the types of Blocks used, and the methodology used to collect your data set.
Innovation
We encourage the project to be a novel application or use-case, an incredible data set, or an innovative way to solve a problem. We suggest you present a unique and valuable use of AI / ML to solve a real-world problem.
Originality
Your work must be unique, and not plagiarized someone else's work. Using a Public Project as the basis for your work is fine, but enough evidence of individuality or improvement must be shown to separate your project from the original creator.
All winning entries are automatically entered into the annual competition. The three best projects will each receive an amazing prize pack.
MacBook Pro, AirPod Pro, and
an Edge Impulse backpack.
AR Pong Game with Object Detection
An ML model using Edge Impulse's FOMO (Faster Objects, More Objects) to detect and differentiate which players are playing & their coordinates.
Visual Inspection With Object Detection AI
A machine learning model to quickly and accurately identify problems that may be missed by human inspection.
Animal Monitoring using TinyML
This project uses a TinyML model and Arduino TinyML kit to monitor animals in the surroundings.
Appliances Identifier - Smart Energy Meter
Measure Voltage, Current, Power and Energy consumption to determine which appliances are running.
Motion Detection and Monitoring
A neural network identifies motion, pivots the camera in the direction of movement, and runs object detection.
Running faucet detection using Thingy 53
Listen for the sound of running water in order to help conserve resources.
Liquid Classification
A TinyML model that measures turbidity to identify liquid types such as tap water or sea water.
Your project is eligible to enter this month's challenge if you meet the following requirements at time of entry:
Follow this blog to quickly make your project public.
The challenge starts on the 1st of the month at 12:00 AM PT, recurring each month, and ends on the last day of the month, 11:59 PM PT.
Note: Challenge end dates are at the sole discretion of Edge Impulse and/or the challenge sponsors and may be subject to change.
If you are a winner, we will contact you directly via email to arrange the payment of your prize money.
Do not worry. When judging entries, we take into account the submission date. When an entry is clearly plagiarized from another, we favour the original entry.
We will make our best effort to select winners the first week of the month following the close of the challenge each month, but reserve the right to choose at any time as the Edge Impulse team may have prior obligations, business travel, out of office time scheduled, etc.
If your participation violates ANY of the following, you may be disqualified.
Project entries may NOT contain ANY of the following content:
We reserve the right to reject an entry, in our sole and absolute discretion, that violates any of the above points.
Other than what is set forth below, we are not claiming any ownership rights to your entry. However, by submitting your entry, you agree to ALL of the following statements:
Please note that following the end of this challenge your entry may be posted on www.edgeimpulse.com. We are not responsible for any unauthorized use of your entry by visitors to this website. While we reserve these rights, we are not obligated to use your entry for any purpose, even if it has been selected as a winning entry. If you do not want to grant us these rights to your entry, please do not enter this challenge.
