Today we are excited to announce our official support for the Nordic Semiconductor nRF9160 DK! Incorporating a Cortex-M33 and full LTE-M/NB-IoT modem with GPS and Bluetooth, this low-power SiP dev kit is ideal for industrial embedded machine learning applications which require sending classification results over long distances.

By pairing this board with the fully supported ST X-NUCLEO-IKS02A1 shield (with on-board accelerometer and microphone), developers can quickly get started collecting data, building and training models, and deploying these models to the nRF9160 DK directly from the Edge Impulse Studio.

Get started building your industrial-grade embedded machine learning applications for the nRF9160 DK today with our getting started guide

Deployment to the nRF9160 DK from the Edge Impulse Studio.
  1. Purchase the nRF9160 DK microcontroller and X-NUCLEO-IKS02A1 sensor shield.
  2. Connect the board to Edge Impulse.
  3. Follow one of Edge Impulse's tutorials on:
  4. Go to the Deployment tab of your Edge Impulse project, then build and download a ready-to-go binary that includes your machine learning model for the nRF9160 DK; or deploy as a C++ library and integrate the model into your own firmware!

Congratulations! You have now successfully built and deployed a low-power, industrial-grade embedded machine learning application for the Nordic Semiconductor nRF9160 DK.

Now that you have deployed a model to your nRF9160 DK, take advantage of this dev kit’s on-board LTE-M/NB-IoT modem by sending your model’s classification results of your incoming sensor data over a cellular network with MQTT. Check out our tutorial in the nRF9160 DK Edge Impulse firmware repository!

We are very excited to see what you build with the nRF9160 DK and Edge Impulse, please post any questions you have and any projects you create over on our forum or tag @EdgeImpulse and @NordicTweets on our social media channels!
