Connect Nordic Devices to the Edge over Wi-Fi

Today, we are excited to announce our official support for the Nordic nRF7002 DK development kit. The nRF7002 DK is a hardware development platform that can be used to design and develop Wi-Fi 6 applications. The DK supports the development of low-power Wi-Fi applications and enables Wi-Fi 6 features like Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA), Beamforming, and Target Wake Time. The DK combines the Wi-Fi 6 capabilities of the nRF7002 companion Integrated Circuit IC with the nRF5340 SoC.

Designed to be used alongside Nordic’s existing nRF52® and nRF53® Series Bluetooth SoCs, and nRF91® Series cellular IoT SiPs, the nRF7002 can also be used in conjunction with non-Nordic host devices.

With its integration with Edge Impulse, you will be able to sample raw data, build models, and deploy trained machine learning models directly from the studio. As the nRF7002 DK does not have any built-in sensors, pairing this DK with the X-NUCLEO-IKS02A1 shield will enable you to quickly develop motion based applications using an integrated MEMS accelerometer.

If you don't have access to the X-NUCLEO-IKS02A1 shield, you can use our data forwarder to capture data from any other sensor, and then follow the "Running your impulse locally: On your Zephyr-based Nordic Semiconductor development board" tutorial to run your impulse.

With Wi-Fi 6 capabilities, the nRF7002DK brings added benefits to IoT applications including further efficiency gains that support long-life, battery-powered Wi-Fi operation. Obtaining Wi-Fi certifications can be complex, but Nordic simplifies the process with the nRF7002, removing roadblocks and saving valuable time and resources. For our users, integration with Edge Impulse enables you to collect and upload data for your applications over a Wi-Fi connection, eliminating the need to have a constant physical connection to your computer.

Head on over to our documentation page for more information on getting started with the nRF7002DK in conjunction with Edge Impulse to create your applications wirelessly. We can’t wait to see what you build.
