We’re thrilled to announce that Edge Impulse has been named as an edge computing “Cool Vendor” by Gartner!
The Gartner Cool Vendor reports, published annually, evaluate a company offering a technology or service that is innovative, impactful and/or intriguing. Cool Vendor selections must be founded within the past 10 years and have an annual revenue of less than $100 million. Gartner analysts take a real look at aspects such as a company’s use of technology, transformative nature, newness, and its business model to tally their scores.
Each Cool Vendor report only lists three to five company selections for its category. Our grouping also includes Spectro Cloud, Avassa, and Sunlight (congrats, pals!). Of this cohort, Edge Impulse is the only one doing machine learning, while the others are focused on infrastructure for IoT deployments.
The full Edge Computing report, assembled by analysts Bob Gill, Thomas Bittman, and Sandeep Unni, is an eight-page analysis including key findings for edge computing (“...significant progress toward simplification and layered solutions has been made over the past year”), recommendations (“Accelerate ML solutions for the edge by experimenting with studios and low code options to empower business unit customers”), and a longer overview of the space before diving into the details on the four companies (broken into “Why Cool,” “Challenges” and “Who Should Care” sub-sections).
The report states that “Edge computing remains a complex, highly diverse trend — but significant progress toward simplification and layered solutions has been made over the past year.”
Our co-founder and CEO Zach Shelby celebrates the announcement: “Being named a Gartner Cool Vendor is a huge honor for us at Edge Impulse. We feel it further highlights edge computing as a key emerging technology, confirms our position as a leader, and validates our efforts to democratize ML deployments for all developers and enterprises, allowing them to build more innovative products faster.
“Instagram, Dropbox, Evernote, and Nest have previously been named Cool Vendors in their own category reports,” Shelby says. “We are elated to have that distinction for Edge Impulse in the edge computing segment.”
